We lucked out on our flight by getting to use Nate’s business class upgrades, which made the 16 hour flight from HK to Chicago SOOOOOO much better!! We got to stretch out, eat better food and everyone slept for about 8 hours because we were able to lay down! The free booze didn’t hurt either ;) I am now a business class snob and told Nate I will never again fly coach, hahaha (yeah right)!! We also got caught up on our US movies and would highly recommend We’re the Millers! LOL funny!!
The whole reason we went home was to spend time with my dad. So glad we went back when we did since he ended up having surgery on the 26th. While we spent most of our time in Chicago, but we did make our way over to the Quad Cities for a few days to see Nate's parents and my grandma.
My sister and her kids were to come to Chicago on the 27th, staying in Kansas City for Christmas as my brother-in-law had to work. However, we got the best surprise on Christmas Eve, the door bell rang and the whole Larson clan was standing at the door! They drove all day from KC and surprised us! Great having Andrea there for dad's surgery as well and the cousins got about a week of playtime in before heading back to Sing.
In all, a great trip home. Seeing family and friends and eating deliciously terrible for you Chicago food, was a great treat! Sad to leave, but happy to get back to the tropics. Being in the midwest in December made us appreciate the year-round Singapore heat even more!
