Hong Kong Weekend: Part 1

We had a great trip back to the US for Christmas break.  On our way out, we stopped in Hong Kong for 2 nights/3 days.  It’s only a 3-1/2 hour flight North from Singapore and we love how it broke up the long trip home.  Not only did it shave that additional time off of the flight to Chicago, but we didn’t have the 3-4 hour layover that also comes with it.  In all it made the trip home about 8 hours shorter.

It was rainy and drizzly in Hong Kong, with temps in the 60’s, which was actually quite refreshing!  I hadn’t been that cold in a long time.  We spent our first day wandering around the city and had fun on the Star Ferry from HK Island to Kawloon.  We had plans to go to Victoria Peak to see the views of the HK islands, but it was too foggy.  Hong Kong is a beautiful city...huge skyscrapers, with the mountains and sea as the backdrop.  HK and Singapore are often compared and are said to be quite similar, large, dense, modern island cities, with a colonial British heritage.  However, HK seemed much more "Chinese" than Singapore.  I loved the rawness of HK, it’s more loud, wild and rough around the edges than Sing and we found that quite refreshing!!

Leave it to the award-winning Singapore Changi airport to be all decked out for the holidays!  Yes, that's Sponge Bob

After the brutal 5:45am flight, we made it to HK!
