We had the privilege of attending a Singaporean wedding earlier this month, as a John Deere colleague of Nate's got married. What a treat!
The traditional Chinese wedding ceremony took place earlier in the day with just family and close friends. We attended the reception at a local hotel on Sentosa Island, with about 500 other people! You could have sworn we were at a US wedding…the bride was in a white strapless wedding gown, tunes were pumping in a large ballroom, wine was flowing... What a surprise!
SO western, well aside from the food. It was about 8 courses. We dined on shark fin soup (a traditional delicacy served at Chinese weddings) and even tried jellyfish and Japanese baby octopus. Let's just say, quite chewy all the way around!
We learned that this type of wedding celebration is quite common in Singapore, the Chinese wedding ceremony, clothing, traditions, etc takes place during the day, followed by the western style reception. So Singapore, striking a balance between traditional and modern all at the same time.
The prawns, jellyfish and red baby octopus
Even a smoke machine, we were dying!!
