Not one ounce of me misses winter :) and I really think the great weather here has put an extra skip in our step! The weather has been abnormally cool and dry. We have not had rain in 30 days, which is crazy for the tropics, and temps have been totally bearable, with lows in the upper 70's and highs only into the mid-upper 80's!! The high's and low's have been about 10 degrees cooler than normal. It is great to not completely sweat while trying to do anything! The Singaporeans are freezing and on the radio they referred to 25 degree lows (77F) as being "a really cold evening." Are you kidding me?? I'm loving it!!!
We do need the rain desperately. I guess it is common to have a dry spell after the monsoon season, but this monsoon season didn't bring a lot of rain and ended early. Another reason we need the rain is to help put out fires burning in Indonesia (just to the west of us), as the dry winds are already pulling smoke and haze into Singapore. In the evenings especially, it spells like a bonfire. They are burning the palm oil fields early this year because of the drought and with no rain, it is blowing over to us. Last June the haze was so bad, you couldn't leave your house! There is fear that the heavy haze could come early this year, as the light haze is already here. More on the infamous Singapore haze to come. Hopefully we'll be out of here for the summer before it gets too bad. However, we do have our face masks ready!!!
Sending warm Singapore breezes your way!! xo
Pattern day in Sam's class!
Tropical road kill :) Right outside of our condo. YUCK!!
While much doesn't shock me anymore. Just couldn't resist taking a pic of this small jar of sprinkles for $17
Date night at Nam Nam's - yummy Vietnamese food
Last running of the horses on the Ion big screen. So long CNY!
Krispy Kreme recently opened in Singapore. Stopped in for a little dessert on our way home.
Yikes, even donuts are expensive here!
Sam can swim across the whole pool now. No floats anymore, not even in the deep end!
Both of the kids are fish :)
Mia's 100th day of school project! Thank you Pinterest. So easy & cute!!!
Signs of the Singapore drought!! It's like fall!! The grass is dead and the trees are losing a ton of leaves!
Sam's class cooks every week. Heart shaped sandwich's for V-day
This is how we role in a tropical city - around the pool!
Some good finds on our snail hunt around the condo
Sis sporty her cute patchwork dress from Bali
Pool time with Sam's bff Thomas and his big sis Mary Mac who is in Mia's grade! How perfect is that?
Decorating cupcakes for vday
Mia had her friends Elina & Maya over to play last weekend.
Sam and his class pet! Sam had to take care of him for 1 night at home, then journal about his time with us. The kids then had a vet come into the classroom for a talk.
Still loving the wheels. Did I mention that you have to back into parking spots here?? I've never seen anything like it, but my backing into tiny parking spaces is getting pretty good. They say because the car parks are so small, it's dangerous to back out blindly. So, you back in and then can pull right out with good visibility.
There's the Picnic!!
The Kindergarten choir concert, "Songs from Around the World!" Each class sang songs in varying languages - from French to Swahili to Mandarin. The school "lifestreams" events like this, so all of the grandparents got to watch back in the US!!
Fun times out with my hubby :)
Mia's classmate Felicia had her bday party at Build A Bear Workshop.
Can you believe we have that here??!!
New stuffed animals and an Elsa cake, doesn't get much better than that for these little girls :)
Fun times on Clark Quay! This area is on the river and full of bars and restaurants. Great for a fun dinner outside, while the kids scooter around the boardwalk. Tonight we had really good Mexican food!
Scootering thru the fountains!! The kids had so much fun getting soaked!!
This guy is getting tall - never mind the outfit, mismatched PJ's!
Carpet picnic (or in Singapore, a Marble picnic), complete with chopsticks and lots of ikea dishes :)
The kids got new scooters as early birthday presents. They are Micro scooters from Switzerland. Every kid has them here and for good reason - they are awesome! They have 2 front wheels and 1 back wheel, you turn by leaning, not by stearing. They glide so easily on the pavement and it doesn't take much effort to get them going. They are lightweight as well.
Great for kids on the move in the city.
